Data from stomach contents and behavioral observations have given us some information on the food web of He'eia fishpond. These data can strengthen stable isotope data, so it is important to examine this question from both angles. Until now, much of the food web data on the Hawai'ian fishponds has come from gut content studies. Above is a representation of what HFP's food web might look like, based on previous studies (mostly by Robert Hiatt, a former president of the University of Hawai'i). The numbers between "nodes" indicate which source the data came from.
